The American Tinnitus Association lists an assortment of tinnitus remedies, but is careful to point out that it does not endorse any of them. Common tinnitus remedies include hearing aids (amplification), biofeedback, electrical stimulation, cochlear implants, counseling (cognitive therapy), and prescription drugs (some doctors may prescribe certain anti-anxiety, anti-depressant, anti-convulsant, or anti-histamine meds).
There are also a number of alternative tinnitus remedies, ranging from internal to external methods. Some of the alternative internal tinnitus remedies include homeopathic tinnitus remedies, herbal tinnitus remedies, and adding certain vitamins to the diet. External techniques like cranio-sacral massage, acupuncture, hypnosis, and magnets have also provided benefits as tinnitus remedies for some sufferers.
Tinnitus Prevention
One of the greatest tinnitus remedies, however, is prevention. To prevent tinnitus, be careful not to place any objects directly into your ear. Even when using a cotton swab, just use it to clean around the inner edges, but do not stick the end of the swab into the ear. This could cause wax to impact up against the eardrum which in turn can lead to tinnitus. Be diligent about taking any blood pressure medicines your doctor prescribes to prevent tinnitus as well.
Are you ready to finally stop the ringing in your ears?
You Need Tinnitus Control!
At work, be sure to protect your hearing. So say the regulations put out by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA. Earmuffs or ear plugs can go a long way to preventing the need for other tinnitus remedies. Employers, set guidelines; employees, follow them.
And as the American Tinnitus Association points out, the same goes for concerts, hunting expeditions, sporting events, and any recreational activity involving loud noises as well. What’s more, the ATA notes that protecting your hearing from the recurring loud noises of daily living, like lawnmowers and blow dryers, could also help protect you from future tinnitus.
